It is very deep regret that we bring you the news that Big Finish's Production Assistant Paul Spragg has died.

Paul might not be a name or face familiar to many Doctor Who fans, but for those who have frequented the Big Finish forums, or ever had a customer enquiry, it's likely to be his genial nature and quick wit that's responded to you.

Cult Times and TV Zone readers may also remember Paul's name from features and editorial he wrote whilst working there. Tom Splisbury, current editor of Doctor Who Magazine remembers Paul in a particularly heartfelt post on his blog, and credits Paul with encouraging Tom to apply for a job with them.

For Big Finish, he was responsible for much of the company's behind-the-scenes work on contracts, script distribution, proof-reading, cover layout, studio management, CD Extra interviews, the website and much more. Recently he'd been made editor of Big Finish's magazine Vortex. He was also often found making jokes on the Big Finish podcast.

For us here at The Digital Fix, Paul was always quick to respond with a Big Finish for us to review, or a cover image, or answers to my (often inane) questions. But he did it with such good grace, and such efficient service that marked out not only someone who loved what they were doing, but also someone who was so cheerful to speak to and always had time for you.

I can't claim to have known him well, but rarely in the business world do you come across people who take the time to care in their interaction with you. It makes them stand out, and Paul was one such man. We never spoke in person (although we promised one day, just one day, our paths may cross) and I suspect I'm in the same boat as many others saying this. But his constant cheery demeanor make dealing with him a delight, and often these interactions would spiral off into chat about one thing or another. And if the overwhelming response from the Doctor Who world is anything to go by, there's a hole in our world for many of us tonight.

The Digital Fix would like to pass on its sincere condolences to Paul's family and friends, as well his colleagues at Big Finish.
